WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN – 2018

The fun in the Valley of the Sun did not stop after the Barrett-Jackson Car Auction. No sir, not in Scottsdale, Arizona in the Spring. In fact, we’re just getting started! A quick two weeks is all the time Scottsdale needs to turn around and host the LARGEST event in Golf! That’s right. The Valley of the Sun is home to the 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open. On the surface, the event may appear to be a golf tournament, but as anyone who has ever attended will tell you, this is nothing short of non-stop revelry with attendees partying well past midnight in the legendary Coors Light Bird’s Nest. This year’s event starts Thursday, February 1 when the players tee off for their first round at the Tournament Players Club (TPC), and it all ends dramatically on Sunday, February 4.

And that, friends, is just the GOLF event. On Wednesday, January 31, there is a limited promotion for the opening night show featuring Flo Rida and Kelley James. For more information about the Coors Light Bird’s Nest visit www.coorslightbirdsnest.com.

“The Loudest Hole in Golf”

Every year The Phoenix Open makes history (and a few disgruntled Pros, cough, cough, Tiger) with “The Loudest Hole in Golf,” which takes place on the 16th hole. The entire hole is surrounded by grandstands filled with people dressed up, hoopin’ and hollerin,’ drinks raised in anticipation, as they riotously urge their favorite player to make a hole-in-one. Golf etiquette and hole 16 at the TPC are never in the same sentence. It’s a short par 3, so a hole-in-one occurs a lot more frequently than you think! However, even without the thrill of the hole-in-one, the Phoenix Open is never short on excitement. Much to the delight of last year’s record-breaking 655,000 week-long attendees, the final match came down to a nail-biting playoff between Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and Webb Simpson, playing for the United States.

Will 2018 be the Year of the Third Double Eagle? Be There to Witness

The 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open promises to be just as entertaining with Matsuyama scheduled to return; however, in truth, it never disappoints. Here’s a fun fact: there have been only two double eagles in the history of the Phoenix Open. Tom Pernice, Jr. made the first double eagle in 1990 on hole 15, a 558-yard, par-5. Local Pro, Andrew Magee, holds the record for the second double eagle, accomplished on hole 17 in 2001, which was the first ever ace on a par-4 in PGA Tour history.

The Only Tournament Where Golf is not a Spectator Sport

The Phoenix Open is broadcast all four days of the tournament; but trust us, this is not your grandparent’s spectator sport.
